Running for the board of directors for the

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater

Why Run

I strive to be the change I want to see in the world. I want to see Clearwater members more engaged in electing  our board and holding it accountable. I may not be the best person to run, but I don't want to ask anyone to do something that I'm unwilling to do.

I've heard many members say there's no way for members to influence who's on the board. I'd like to keep proving them wrong. Any Clearwater member can run to be on the board, either as a write-in, or by being put on the ballot by petition.

If you'd like to see me on the ballot, sign my petition.

Why Vote for Me?

Vote for me if, or another write-in candidate if you want to show that YOU the MEMBERS control Clearwater's future.

Vote for me because in less than six months I raised almost $400K for Clearwater as Executive Director, and I have ideas about raising more.

Tools for You

Clearwater's founders and past board members have left behind a wealth of information in the form of our bylaws, policies and other documentation.

I believe one of the best ways to honor those who came before us is to read what they wrote. Click on the "More Info" button below for a list of documents I find particularly informative.

In the meantime...

ABOUT ME

After 25 years working in the private sector, I went in search of a way to spend more of my time making the world a better place. When I found out that Clearwater was looking for a new Executive Director, the idea of returning to the Hudson Valley and leading the organization I'd revered since growing up in Croton-on-Hudson seemed both irresistible and impossible.

At that time, in 2018, Clearwater was contemplating bankruptcy, and had no money to pay an Executive Director, whether or not the board liked me. I persuaded them to let me try to stabilize the organization without pay. By December 2018, we'd completed the sailing season, stabilized our finances ad were able to pay me a modest salary.

Unfortunately, disagreements between the board, staff and I rose to a point where the board decided to dismiss me on July 20th 2020. I remain a committed Clearwater member, and was elected to the board of directors in 2020 as a write-in candidate. I remain eager to do what I can for Clearwater. If you think I can help by serving an additional 3-year term, send me an e-mail telling me you'd like to support a second write-in campaign.
